Circulation

The Circulation Desk is located near the front doors in Kent Library. It is your go-to location for a variety of services, including:

  • Checking out and returning library items.
  • Picking up items you have requested or placed on hold, including items from other libraries.
  • Checking out reserve materials.

If you need assistance with magazines, newspapers, or microfilm, please visit the Periodicals Desk. Community members are also welcome to check out items once they have signed up for a library card at the Circulation Desk.

General Circulation & Periodicals Policies

Lost or Damaged Items

If you lose or damage any items borrowed from Kent Library, please contact the Circulation Desk. You can reach us by calling 573.651.2232 or by emailing us at circulationdesk@semo.edu. Please note that Kent Library will not accept replacement copies of lost or damaged books.

On-Shelf Holds

Patrons may place holds on items available for check-out within the library’s collection. Throughout the day, holds will be periodically pulled from the collection and placed on the hold shelf for patrons. You will be notified once your hold is ready to be picked up.

Holds

Patrons may place holds on items that are currently checked out. Once the item is returned to the library, the patron will be notified that it is available for pick-up.

Placing Holds

Faculty, staff, and students may place holds by using the Kent Library catalog at https://semo-encore.iii.com.

 

Community Patrons

Missouri residents who are 16 years of age or older are welcome to obtain a library card for Kent Library. As a community patron, you can check out items, use Interlibrary Loan services, and place holds on books and videos. To place a hold, you can contact the Circulation Desk by calling 573.651.2232 or by emailing us at circulationdesk@semo.edu. There is no fee to become a community patron.

Reference Materials

Reference materials may be checked out with the permission of a Reference Librarian. The checkout period typically ranges from one to three days, depending on the item. Patrons are also welcome to make copies or scans from reference materials (copyright rules apply).

Periodicals

Though journals do not circulate, patrons are welcome to make copies or scans of articles from journals (copyright rules apply). If you would like a journal article scanned and sent to you via email, you may submit an Interlibrary Loan request. To make an Interlibrary Loan request, please visit the the interlibrary loan section.
