Circulation

The Circulation Desk is located near the front doors of Kent Library. You can visit this desk to check items in and out, pick up items you’ve put on hold or requested from other libraries, and check out reserve items. If you need to access magazines, newspapers, or microfilm, please ask at the Periodicals Desk. Also, if you are a member of the community and wish to check out items from Kent Library, you can come to the Circulation Desk to sign up for a library card.

General Circulation & Periodicals Policies

Lost or Damaged Items

If you lose or damage any item borrowed from Kent Library, please contact the Circulation Desk by calling us at 573.651.2232, or by emailing us at circulationdesk@semo.edu. Kent Library will NOT accept replacement copies of lost or damaged books.

On-Shelf Holds

Patrons may place holds on items available for check-out which are located within the library’s collection. Periodically, throughout the day, holds will be pulled from the collection and put on the hold shelf for patrons. Patrons will be notified when their hold is ready to be picked up.

Holds

Patrons may place holds on items that are currently checked out. Once the item returns to the library, the patron will be notified.

Placing Holds

Faculty, staff and students may place holds by using the Kent Library catalog at https://semo-encore.iii.com.

 

Community Patrons

Patrons who are Missouri residents and are 16 years of age or older, may obtain a library card for Kent Library. Community patrons may check out items from the library and use Interlibrary Loan. Community patrons may place holds on books and videos by calling the Circulation Desk at 573.651.2232 or by emailing us at circulationdesk@semo.edu. There is no fee to become a community patron.

Reference Materials

Reference materials may be checked out with the permission of a Reference Librarian. Check out periods run from one to three days, depending on the reference item.
Patrons are welcome to make copies or scans from reference materials (copyright rules apply).

Periodicals

Journals do not circulate. Patrons are welcome to make copies or scans of articles in journals (copyright rules apply). Patrons may also make an Interlibrary Loan request to have articles scanned and sent to them via email.
