Use of Collections
General Due to the unique and fragile nature of many of our materials, the collections may be used only in the Special Collections and Archives Reading Room of Kent Library. First-time visitors will be asked to fill out an application to use the archives, and must present a valid photographic ID.  They will be issued a Patron Identification Card, which must be presented upon all subsequent visits to gain access. All belongings must be placed in a locker. Use of cell phones is prohibited in the reading room. Laptop computers are permitted in the Reading Room with the approval of a staff member. Prepared notes are permitted only with the approval of staff.  Pencils, paper and gloves are available at the Reading Room desk. Researchers are asked to use only pencils for note-taking. Reproduction Photocopying is permitted, as long as it is done in accordance with donor agreements and copyright regulations.  Some materials may not be copied due to their fragile nature.  The staff reserves the right to limit the number of items copied, or to decline to make reproductions of any particular item, especially when such reproduction cannot be done without injury to the material.
Media Reproduction Order Form Print, fill out, and then mail or bring this form to Special Collections and Archives if you wish to have media reproduced. Please note that some materials cannot be reproduced due to their fragility
Ordering Images Special Collections offers a variety of fee-based services to researchers, including the creation of photocopies, photographic prints, and digital images delivered via email or disc.  For prices and associated fees, please consult the Ordering Images Page.  Commercial inquiries should contact Special Collections directly at (573) 651-2245.
Citations In citing materials from manuscript collections located in this library, the form should be as follows:
[identification of the item, title of the collection, box/folder number], Special Collections and Archives, Kent Library, Southeast Missouri State University.
Permission to Publish Researchers should be aware that the copyright law of the United States (Title 17, USC) provides protection for unpublished materials as well as for published works. Permission to publish from or quote from previously unpublished manuscripts or from published items under copyright must first be obtained from the copyright holder. It is the researcher's responsibility to secure that permission. For original manuscript materials, the permission of Special Collections, as owner of the originals, is also required.
