Scope and Contents

Research papers and other documents created by students in Historic Preservation courses. These papers and reports are either individual projects or group projects mostly dealing with the history of individual people, properties, and regions of Cape Girardeau and Southeast Missouri. These include several National Register of Historic Places nominations. Projects are arranged by subject matter, then chronologically by date of project. The HP100 Oral History interviews are arranged by year, then alphabetically.

Some oral histories are restricted from publication and reproduction because they are not accompanied by a release form granting copyrights to Special Collections and Archives. As these release forms are updated these restrictions will be removed. These files are located in Box 1054 and may not be published, quoted or copied.

Biographical / Historical

The Historic Preservation Program is offered by Southeast Missouri State University’s Department of History for students who want to pursue careers in preservation of the built environment, historic site administration, archives, or museum management. The curriculum combines classroom learning with hands-on practice and field experience in history, research methods, architectural history, preservation, historic site administration, museum studies, and archival studies. Students complete internships with museums, sites, and historical agencies around the nation.
