Dance and sports are two movement forms that appeal to people as participants and spectators for a variety of reasons-kinesthetic, competitive, expressive, artistic, cathartic, aesthetic. The presentation will involve a discussion of some similarities, differences, and singular qualities between dance and sport from a philosophy of arts perspective, with special reference to Aristotle’s Poetics, Tolstoy’s What is Art? and traditional Navajo attitudes.
