Database
A database,
also called a library subscription database, provides
a way of organizing information so that you can easily find what
you are looking for.
|
A database includes the citations
of articles in magazines, journals and newspapers. Databases also contain multi media,
book chapters, books, and archival resources.
Some databases contain abstracts or brief summaries of the articles. Many contain the full text or entire content of whole articles as
they originally appeared in the periodical.
|
In
a database each item has its own record,
which provides information about it.
Each record is composed of individual pieces of information called
fields. Fields include such information as the author, title, publisher,
subject heading, etc. for that item. Each of these fields is a searchable
access point to the information.
