What is Interlibrary Loan (ILL)?
Interlibrary Loan is a
service that supports the research needs of Southeast Missouri State
University by providing access to materials from libraries throughout
the United States. Patrons can use ILL to borrow books, dissertations,
and articles.
Interlibrary loan
conditions are set by the National Interlibrary Loan Code of the
American Library Association and by individual libraries. It is the
prerogative of the lending library to set the loan period, refuse to
lend materials, withhold permission to photocopy, and/or restrict
materials to library use. As the borrowing library, we must
adhere to all rules and restrictions set by the lending library.

How Long Will It Take?
On average, it takes 11 working days to fill an ILL request, though
it can take as little as 3 days or as long as 1 month to receive materials, depending on the
location and the availability of the item at other libraries. ILL staff will attempt to borrow
books from closer libraries first and journal articles from libraries
that transmit
digitally. Requests are usually processed within 24 hours of receipt. Requests submitted
after 3:00 p.m. or on weekends will be processed on the next business day.
Because ILL cannot
predict the availability or location of an item, we cannot guarantee
that materials will be received within a specified period of time.
Patrons are encouraged to request materials well in advance of
deadlines.

How Will I Be Notified When My Materials Arrive?
Southeast Missouri State University
employees, faculty emeritus and
current students will receive an email notification in their Southeast email.
Local patrons will receive an email notification at the email address
provided by the patron. In
addition, an email notification will be sent if your request has been
cancelled for any reason. You may track the status of your request by
going to
InterLibrary Loan. All articles that
Kent Library receives digitally will be available for you to view
and/or print from
InterLibrary
Loan.

What is Copyright and how
does it affect me?
***Notice of Copyright Restrictions***
WARNING CONCERNING COPYRIGHT RESTRICTIONS
The copyright law of the United States (Title 17

other reproduction. One of these specified conditions is that the
photocopy or reproduction is not to be "used for any purpose
other than private study, scholarship, or research." If a user
makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for
purposes in excess of "Fair use," that user may be liable for
copyright infringement.
This institution reserves the right to refuse to
accept a copying order, if in its judgment, fulfillment of the
order would involve violation of copyright law.
