Q: Does the library
accept
donations of money, books, magazines, etc.?
For cash donations, contact the director of Kent Library at
573.651.2235. For book or magazine donations please
contact the
Collection Management Department for more information.
Q: Does the library have a typewriter?
Yes, one is located in the hallway outside
the Instructional Materials Center (IMC). For questions or
assistance, ask at the IMC service desk.

Q: How can I access the library
databases from off-campus?
When attempting to access a library database from
off-campus, a log-in screen will appear. This screen asks
for a name and your Southeast ID number. Use all the letters
and numbers that make up your ID, and follow the
instructions on that login page.
Q: What is MOBIUS?
MOBIUS: Is a consortium of Missouri academic libraries of
which Southeast Missouri State University is a member.
MOBIUS libraries are organized geographically by cluster.
Kent Library is part of the Galahad cluster, which also
includes Mineral Area College (MAC) and Three Rivers
Community College (TRCC). On average, it takes 3-5
days to fill a MOBIUS request. This delivery time is
dependent upon the pick up location chosen.

Where are the computers for local patron use?
Kent Library computer use is set aside for students enrolled
at Southeast Missouri State University. There are computers for catalog
access on the 4th floor. Local patrons can be logged
onto the consultation stations if they are using
subscription databases or government documents. The policy

Where can I go for quiet study space?
The Quiet Reading Room
on the third floor is a designated quiet study area.
Quiet study space and comfortable seating are also available
on the fourth floor. On the second floor (main floor) of the
library, there are four group study rooms available for
small study groups. Two of these are across from the Coffee
Cart, and two are located on the south wall in the
Periodicals area.
Q: How do I checkout a book?
Take the book to either the Circulation desk
or Periodicals desk on the
main floor and present your
Red Hawks photo ID Card. (Local patrons must present valid Photo ID
and Local Patron ID card if they have received one.)
Q: Where can I make group PowerPoint presentations, edit videos and photos, do screen captures or convert VHS to DVD?

Can I
print out something that is on microfilm?
Yes, you can view and print microfilm or save to
USB drive or CD-R in the Periodicals area. Ask at the
Periodicals Service desk for help using the equipment.

Can I
check out Reference books, current or bound journals?
Reference and
bound journals are always available in the library and never
circulate for that reason.
Southeast faculty can check
out current journals.
Q: How many books can I
check out and how long can I keep them?
There are different loan periods for
students,
staff,
professional staff,
faculty,
emeritus
faculty,
administrators and local
patrons. A paper copy of circulation policies is
available at the circulation desks.

What do I do if the book I want is on loan to someone else?
The fastest way to obtain the book is to check
MOBIUS to
see if another copy is available to request. Please
contact the
Reference Desk
for further assistance. An additional method, but not as
quick is to put a
Hold Request on a book.

What do I do if the book I want is marked available but it's
not on the shelf?
Go to the Reference Desk on the third floor for assistance,
map.

What are the charges for an overdue book?

circulation policies for overdue books, videos/DVDs and
reserve materials.

Kent Library does not have the book I want?
Check MOBIUS
to see if a copy is available to request if you are a
student. If a copy is
not available in MOBIUS or you are a local patron, you can fill out an
Interlibrary Loan request. Link to

Q: What do I do if Kent Library does not have the full text
to the journal article
that I want?
First double check to see if we have the full text online.
Search for the journal name using the
E
Journal Portal. If there is no full text available
either in HTML or PDF, you can fill out an
Interlibrary Loan request. Link to
form.
Q:
What happens if I lose/damage a book?
On the billing date, all users with overdue materials
are charged a $100 replacement fee and a nonrefundable $20
billing fee for each item. Fines begin accruing immediately
when an item is overdue. However, if material is returned
before billing date, only accrued fines are due. Materials
not returned are charged $100 replacement fee and
nonrefundable $20 billing fee. If item is returned in good
condition or an appropriate replacement copy is submitted
within 90 days of billing date, the $100 replacement charge
will be refunded. However, the $20 billing fee is not
refundable. After 90 days, the item will be withdrawn from
the system and a returned or a replacement copy will not be
accepted. All accounts are payable to the Cashiers Office in
accordance with University policy and the laws of the State
of Missouri.

If an item has a R before its call number it is in the
Reference Collection.

Microforms
use film to store documents. They are available near the
periodicals desk on the main floor,

Where are the DVDs and Videos?
The DVDS and Videos are in the
Instructional Materials Center on the third floor. DVDS
are classified
by genre on the Instructional Materials Center page.

Where is the elevator?
The main elevator is located next to the
main staircase. The service elevator is by the
west stairwell.

Where is the public telephone?
Public telephones for on-campus calling are located in the
front hallway across from the Circulation Desk.
Students may use the telephones in their University
dormitory rooms for off-campus calling.
Q: Where can I buy beverages and
snacks?
Vending machines are available on the 1st floor (lower level
at the bottom of main stairway near the elevator) during
library hours. Chartwells Coffee Cart in Sadie's place (2nd
floor, main level) is open 3:30 p.m.-10:00 p.m. Sunday
through Thursday. The Cart serves a variety of hot and cold
drinks and snacks.

You can checkout books and articles on Reserve at the
Circulation Desk.
You can checkout films on reserve at the
Instructional Materials
Center.
Q: Where are the Restrooms?
The Restrooms are located in the front hallway on the
main floor and in
the Northwest corner on the
3rd and
4th floors.
Q: Where is Textbook Rental?
Textbook Rental is in the
basement of Kent Library. Enter from an outside door
across from Dearmont. There is no entry to Textbook
Rental from inside Kent Library.
Q:
How do I pay for photocopies?
Use cash to pay for photocopies. Copies are 10¢
per page. A two-sided copy costs 10¢
for each side.
Faculty may use a Departmental Copy
Card available from the Administrative Assistant in their
department to pay for photocopying. The Administrative Assistant may obtain a
Departmental Copy Card by filling out the form at this site:

Q: Where can I get change?
The Change Machine, located on the main floor, accepts $1,
$5, $10, and $20 bills and dispenses quarters. Bills may be
broken at the Periodicals Desk.

Where can I use the Microsoft Office Suite of software?
All of the Microsoft Office Suite of software is available
on the computers in the Kent
Library Open Computer Lab on the third floor.

Q: Where are the photocopiers?
They are available on the main floor and
in the reference area on the third floor. All machines
on the main floor accept
coins and bills and dispense change.
Q: Where can I scan?
There is a scanner in the info lab on the third level.
Scanning is also available using the copy machine on the third level outside
the computer lab. Please ask the lab assistants for
help scanning.
