USE OF COLLECTIONS |
| General |
Due to
the unique and fragile nature of many of our materials, the collections
may be used only in the Felix E. Snider Reading Room of Kent Library.
First-time visitors will be asked to fill out an application to use the
collection, and must present a valid photographic ID. They will be
issued a Patron Identification Card, which must be presented upon all
subsequent visits to gain access to Special Collections. All belongings
must be placed in a locker. Use of cell phones is prohibited in the
reading room. Laptop computers are permitted in the Reading Room with
the approval of a staff member. Prepared notes are permitted only with
the approval of staff. Pencils, paper and gloves are available at the
Reading Room desk. Researchers are asked to use only pencils for
note-taking. Pens are prohibited. |
|
Reproduction |
Photocopying is
permitted, as long as it is done in accordance with donor agreements and
copyright regulations. Some materials may not be copied due to their
fragile nature. The staff reserves the right to limit the number of
items copied, or to decline to make reproductions of any particular
item, especially when such reproduction cannot be done without injury to
the material. |
|
Permission to Publish |
Researchers should be aware that the copyright law of
the United States (Title 17, USC) provides protection for unpublished
materials as well as for published works. Permission to publish from or
quote from previously unpublished manuscripts or from published items
under copyright must first be obtained from the copyright holder. It is
the researcher's responsibility to secure that permission. For original
manuscript materials, the permission of Special Collections, as owner of
the originals, is also required. |
