Organizational Sketch

In 1906 a group of businessmen established the Cape Girardeau-Jackson Interurban Railway with the intention of extending street car service from Cape Girardeau to Jackson. This proposed five mile extension of service to Jackson using existing street car lines along Broadway, Independence, Main, and Spanish Streets, was abandoned in 1908 after discovering a steam line adopted the route. The Cape Girardeau-Jackson Interurban Railway continued to operate street car service in Cape Girardeau extending service to Henderson and Normal Avenues, William and Good Hope Streets, and West End Boulevard for a total of four miles. Due to the lack of ridership and cost of upkeep, the transportation method was abandoned in 1934.
