| Biographical Note |
| Joseph Archibald Serena was born in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1874 and spent his youth there and in nearby Covington, Kentucky. He worked in the banking business for a decade before graduating from Eureka College, Eureka, Illinois. Prior to serving as President of Southeast Missouri State College (1921-1933), he held presidencies at Keuka College, Keuka Park, New York and William Woods College, Fulton, Missouri. As an ordained minister of the Christian Church, Serena also pastored churches in New York, Oklahoma, and California. He died in Lexington, Kentucky, in 1959. |

| The collection consists of Serena family correspondence and correspondence concerning Keuka College, William Woods College, Southeast Missouri State College, and activities of the Christian Church. Also included are family financial records, family genealogy, and poetry written by Virginia Hearne Serena, who Joseph married in 1915. |
