Historical Note

The library exhibits of 1919 contained methods of incorporating the use of the "projectoscope" into the educational process. According to the November 7, 1919 Capaha Arrow article, "This instrument will not only throw a post card or print on the screen, but also uses equally as well the children's own work, . . . Emphasis was placed on illustrations and illustrated works for elementary and secondary departments. Detroit Publishing, the Audubon Society of Boston, Cheney Silk Company, Kellogg Company, and Hershey Brothers were some who contributed materials for the exhibits. The Southeast Missouri Teachers' Association meeting was an educational event held during the exhibits opening. In 1920, the library's exhibit was to show the relation of the library to various departments of a school. In addition, there was a puppet theater, a dollhouse by the Industrial Arts classes well as the making of paper dolls, pottery, and scrapbooks.
