Organizational Sketch

The organization of departments into colleges began with the 1976-1977 academic year.  Beginning July 1, 1976, the departments under the current College were divided between the College of Applied Arts and Sciences, the College of Humanities and the College of Social Sciences. The College of Health and Human Services was formed in 1989, bringing together related departments from the College of Education and Behavioral Science, the College of Humanities, and the College of Social Sciences. Courses and departments have been developed throughout the years, providing additional opportunities to students.  For example, courses in speech began to be taught in 1938, with a full degree introduced in 1951. A major in speech correction was introduced in 1962. A social work major was added in the 1970s, and has been continually accredited by the council on Social Work Education since 1990.

Includes publications such as event information, informational brochures, newsletters, and reports. Over the years, departments have changed names, merged or even changed colleges. The most current departmental organization is used here. Documents concerning the College are arranged first, followed by its departments and programs arranged alphabetically.
